Jimmy that was how my thinking started and I would agree with you, or would have agreed with you, 100%…that in me has changed…IMO Steve made a mistake in bringing in Larkin as captain…the team did not respond to Blashill, nor to Lalonde now that seems to be McLellan … is he a bad picker of coaches? Maybe in Detroit and he might have just got lucky with Cooper…but if you have a captain that is fighting discipline from the coach at all levels, maybe that is where the problem is and that is where my opinion is sitting today, that can change with more info…but my tea leave reading is that this is Dylan’s problem with Yzerman playing a significant role in it also, rather than the other way around…
So it looks like the Knights will win the Stanley Cup, well, maybe…and this terrible team, that is the laughing stock of the league, won more games than they did? This team is closer than we think… and a team that plays as lackluster as this group does you look at the Captain, not the GM…look how Soderblom played when he left, much tougher…that was the player that was drafted…blame the coach? Don’t think so, look at the team on the ice and their leadership…it lacks…Dan Campbell is mentioned, Yzerman is not Campbell, Yzerman is Holmes…and yes he gets the players, but look at the leadership on the field, Sewell, St. Brown etc. … lackluster play? Nope! Okay culture setting…Yzerman changed the culture with bringing in Todd as coach, the team did not respond … I think it is because Dylan got his feelings hurt…talented young man, good role player and a guy that will win some cups, just not as a leader…
We all need to remember, a strong captain can lift a team. The Wings shortcomings falls on Yzerman’s shoulders but, and that is a big BUT, Larkin did not lift the team as a great captain could…his fingers are all over the results too. Yzerman tabbed him as Captain…this gives him a chance to make a better choice
@MoTownM0@GrindLinePod@DarrenMcCarty4 Curiosity not nostalgia, nothing wrong about asking questions. Just wondering what lingers on in Larkin that challenges him. He has a part in their failure too…but also the Wings won more games than the team leading the finals…
Take the time and watch On Patrol Live from Friday night and see what the atmosphere at this “Festival” was…entities like CNN are part of the problem…I watched live what the situation was in Toledo and then read the article on the situation from CNN…they do not align…you are being controlled by the media…and it is getting worse, I wish we did not have any violence, but there is an obvious agenda here.
@bobwojnowski Thinking also that this solves a problem for Yzerman…not sure he was sold on Larkin as Captain, tough to pull that C from a guy. I like Seider as the next but I have no clue what goes on in the locker room…our next C might not be on the roster right now
In any situation like this, there is never one factor, people may say there’s one factor, but there isn’t. So many things play into it and what you mentioned is probably one of the many factors. I also believe there are factors in those other areas that probably make Dylan look weak. I still don’t see him moving on…
Someone wrote it on the internet, it must be true…here is Grok’s take: Bottom line: Larkin is unhappy with the team’s direction and performance (understandably, given Detroit’s long playoff drought), but there is no solid evidence he has formally requested a trade. The Red Wings are more likely to build around him than deal him. Treat this article as fan speculation or clickbait until a major credible insider reports it with specifics. Things can always change in the NHL, but as of now, this looks like noise. When hear from 71 or 19, then I will believe it.
