Destroyer of broadband monopolies and digital divides. CEO of @utopiafiber. Passion for municipal fiber and #openaccess fiber networks. #munifiber#utpol#10g
Big victory today for Bountiful City, UT residents & @AAPBroadband! Industry-backed dark money groups trying to derail the City's unanimous decision to partner w. @UTOPIAFiber to build community broadband failed to collect enough signatures for the November ballot! My statement:
“Who let the #utopiafiber guy in?” Hahaha. Many people do not know that UTOPIA Fiber is an inter local entity owned by cities. It was a pleasure meeting with the Utah senators about broadband issues.
Utah cities and towns face unique challenges brought about by nation-wide economic conditions, as well as state issues like drought and rapid growth. Met with the Utah League of Cities and Towns on efforts we can take in Washington to best support our local communities.
Our community was “absolutely underserved.” -Duluth Mayor @larsonforduluth
Unfortunately, incumbent providers have lobbied federal standards to be so low that they are considered “served.”
Shouldn’t communities themselves determine whether or not they are “served”?

Not a bad Plan B when the golf tournament at #MountainConnect gets cancelled because of too much snow. Looking forward to a great conference! #arapahoebasin
UTOPIA is proud to be a founding member of AAPB (American Association of Public Broadband). Our mission is to work collaboratively with communities, policymakers, service providers, and other industry groups to advance high-speed broadband deployments in the United States.
Are #broadband and #digitalequity top priorities for your city, county, or state, but you don't know where to start? Join us at #BBCSummit2022 in Houston this Monday (May 2). Lots of great panels, exhibitors, and discussions will be there.

Thanks Utah Association of Counties for a great conference! We had a lot of great conversations with #Utah counties about bringing #openaccess#broadband competition to underserved communities.

@editoremilye It looks like you might be using the state's speed test, which is running on a Centurylink connection in Denver. This is not a good test. What do you get on https://t.co/WoSzxg0MWQ (using UTOPIA's server and other non-UTOPIA servers in Utah)?
Open-access fiber infrastructure brings better services to communities, while enabling private providers to innovate and compete.
We are excited to partner with the Golden State Connect Authority for open-access fiber in California!

Former Mayor @AndyBerke, Special Representative for Broadband, shared about how equitable, affordable access to broadband is essential to bringing communities forward. #CCCNLC
Use #SlurFuRF funds for broadband! Most federal programs prohibit cities from benefitting because incumbent provider claims make them ineligible. However, any remaining State & Local Fiscal Recovery Funds can be used with significantly more flexibility. #CCCNLC#munifiber
Far more are in need of faster, reliable, and affordable broadband than those identified as “underserved”. Communities like Chattanooga have built city-wide fiber to ensure all of its citizens have access to the fastest speeds in America. Great discussion going on at #CCCNLC.
