My speed month project: what if WordPress was an OS you interact with in an open canvas... The canvas holds the objects (posts, pages, media, etc) organized to your needs and taste.
This was just merged into Gutenberg trunk, and it’s a much bigger deal than it looks 👇
WordPress is getting a native UI to create custom post types.
No code. No plugins.
Just:
Settings → Post Types → Add
That might sound small… it’s not.
Custom post types go from “developer feature” → “everyday user feature”
Which means:
• Better structured content from day one
• Easier onboarding
• Less plugin dependency
• A cleaner foundation for AI to understand your site
And this is just the start.
Post types → taxonomies → …you can probably guess what comes next
You can see where this is heading…
WordPress is becoming a powerful content modelling system 👀
We've shipped a Subscriptions Health Check tool giving every merchant visibility into renewal states — plus a full account of what we investigated, what we found, and what we're changing going forward.

Team worked hard and diligently on this one. Still some more updates to come as well.
As I mentioned in the post, it's the kind of tool that would actually be better if it wasn't needed (and that's our goal). However, one of the biggest strengths of WooCommerce is its incredible flexibility and that does mean that not only bugs in the software, but also conflicts from other plugins, unintentional customization impact (or configuration misteps) can cause unexpected changes to critical flows like Subscriptions.
Visibility is super important for businesses to succeed. That's a message we've heard loud and clear.
@levelsio Just like when I was in the US, but in the opposite direction, I had to get an US phone number to order food from @DoorDash. But honestly, you have a CPF, but you don't have a BR phone number?
Some big news to close out 2025: @stephen_wolfram has officially joined Automattic as a Special Advisor.

Our very own @photomatt joined the @tbpn crew to close out #StateOfTheWord yesterday. They talked about WordPress 6.9, open source, @beeper, and how AI is changing the web. Did you miss it? Check it out now. https://t.co/hTLWOjAbba
Visiting (and working) in one of the A8C data centers was one of the things I'm going to always remember. I'd love to repeat that in the future. For context, I helped replacing some servers in the GRU data center :)
Curious what an Automattic data center looks like? Last year, @zander shared a fascinating post on the @WordPressdotcom blog about his visit

@ryanwelcher builds an awesome audio visualizer with Telex AI from @automattic — in just 15 minutes! 🎶
There’s also a great pro tip in there too 👇https://t.co/5kdqdJJJuz
Türk Telekom’a HTTP/3 bağlantılarında problem yaşıyoruz.
