โCrazy for Youโ was written by John Bettis and Jon Lind for the 1985 film Vision Quest. The writers based the song on a nightclub scene in the script, not on Madonnaโs voice. Produced by John โJellybeanโ Benitez, it was her first major ballad and showed she could do more than dance tracks.
Released in March 1985, it became her second No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, knocking โWe Are the Worldโ from the top. It also reached No. 1 in Australia and Canada, and No. 2 in the UK. After the songโs success, the film was renamed Crazy for You in some European markets. The track earned Madonna her first Grammy nomination, for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance. A 1991 remix later returned to No. 2 in the UK and helped make it her best-selling single there at the time.
"One More Try" is from the album Faith (1987), George Michael's debut solo album after Wham!. He wrote and produced the entire track himself, showcasing the creative independence that defined the Faith sessions.
Released as the album's fourth single, it spent three weeks at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100, becoming the third chart-topping single from Faith. It also reached #1 on the US R&B and Adult Contemporary charts, while peaking at #8 on the UK Singles Chart.
Some songs don't just bring back memories. They bring back people, places, and feelings you haven't thought about in 40 years. If you grew up in the '80s, turn this one up.
I promise you'll feel something.
