I’ve spent the last few days digging through Virginia’s budget conference report.

What I’ve learned is simple: This isn’t just a budget.

It’s a vehicle for policy changes that would never survive public scrutiny on their own.

Legislator pay raises. New government programs. A state-backed green energy bank. Recreational marijuana implementation. Election law changes. New registries. Childcare regulation changes. Race-based tourism spending. Richmond Coliseum demolition funding.

These are just a few of the items I’ve highlighted in prior posts. Go back and read them. Check the page numbers. Read the language yourself.

If I were in office - my single up/down vote on the budget would be No. You only get one vote - you can’t debate all this stuff and there are too many non-budget policy changes in the budget. Democrats are using the budget to reshape the commonwealth and it’s wrong.

More than 1.3 million Virginians had already voted when Democrats first passed this constitutional amendment.

The Court holds that violated the Constitution and nullified the referendum.

The 2021 court-approved maps remain in place for 2026.

This is just some of the legal and moral gymnastics Democrats have performed to take the fairest maps in the country and make them the most unfair. For what? For power.

@AssocAnderson How about Massachusetts? It's a state where 30% of voters are Republican and yet the Congressional map has been rigged for years to deny any Republican representation in Congress. In California, Repubs were already grossly under-represented, even before the latest gerrymander.

Congressman Ben Cline (R-VA 6th) just laid it out plain as day:

"A party powerful enough to ram this down everyone's throat isn't the victim of unfairness. It's the cause of it."

That's exactly what Governor Abigail Spanberger and Virginia Democrats are doing right now. In 2019, Spanberger called gerrymandering "detrimental to our democracy." In 2020, 66% of Virginians voted to create a bipartisan redistricting commission — and it WORKED. Virginia's fair maps earned an "A" rating and produced a congressional delegation that actually reflects how Virginians vote.

Now Spanberger has thrown all that away. As Rep. Cline details, she dropped her "affordability" agenda the moment she was sworn in, rejoined the radical environmental scheme that raises electricity costs by $500 million a year, and is considering tax hikes on everything from income to gym memberships to dog walking.

And the gerrymandering? State Senate Majority Leader Scott Surovell (D-Fairfax) and House Speaker Don Scott pushed a 10-to-1 Democrat map through on party-line votes. Attorney General Jay Jones is fighting in court to keep it alive. Right here in Fairfax County, Congressmen James Walkinshaw, Suhas Subramanyam, and Don Beyer all stand to benefit from maps designed to make their seats permanently untouchable.

As Cline writes — they were dishonest about Biden's mental fitness, and now they want us to believe a 10-to-1 map promotes "fair elections." Don't buy it.

A Roanoke College poll shows 52% of Virginians OPPOSE this scheme — including 56% of independents.
