I was briefed this morning on the U.S. military capture of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife, as well as their planned imprisonment in federal custody here in New York City.

I am saddened to learn of the passing of former Emperor Sheev Palpatine.

Emperor Palpatine was a devoted public servant, from the halls of the Imperial Senate to many positions of leadership in multiple Imperial administrations. His passing marks the loss of a figure who, with a strong sense of dedication, gave so much of his life to the Empire he loved.
