Oscar Mabuyane, the premier of the Eastern Cape, has caused a political uproar after a thorough analysis showed that he oversaw a number of international trade missions that cost taxpayers R12,75 million.

Premier Mabuyane led about 60 government officials from various departments and municipalities.

The delegation traveled to the United Arab Emirates , Germany, China, Japan, Tunisia, Egypt, and Qatar as part of at least seven international missions. A two-week tour of Greece and Italy was part of his most recent itinerary, which ran from late May to June 2026.
