What are you reading Wednesday? 📚 I highly recommend @rubyKpayne Ruby K. Payne, Ph.D. Book: “Educating Students Experiencing Homelessness, Instability and Disengagement” Ruby Payne examines a social cognitive framework that includes the importance of the autonomic nervous system (ANS) and human biology that impacts behavior. It also discusses the positive influence of safety and belonging on the prefrontal cortex.
Educating Students provides tools for negotiating the abstract realities of school and raising achievement, it reveals strategies for calming students, and it explores how to build a wider community of support. Payne also tells how the instability of resources, time demands, and the demands of the environment negatively impact the ANS and how to address this problem.

Emotional poverty
Presenting at Stuttgart School District in Arizona. The whole district is ready to build their muscles in their ability to empower students with knowledge and wisdom for their future. The force is strong here. @ahaprocess@rubyKpayne
My career in education and the life my children are privileged to live can all be credited to this human. I read Understanding Poverty and saw a window into helping myself and others break the cycle of generational poverty. That’s when I decided to become a teacher in EDUC 1301.
Please drop a note. Is this happening in your community? What resources does your community have to support college students who are in this situation?
