Heterogeneity & complexity are well-known to affect biodiversity, but what about ecosystem functioning? Our new paper shows substrate heterogeneity triggers cascades that boost foundation species, biodiversity, and ultimately multifunctionality. https://t.co/DGj2W80eY1

Happy to be visiting sites in Galicia, N. Spain, with PhD student @rubygeorge_ and the @BEcologyCIIMAR team. This is the southern (warmest) region in our collaborative study on the resilience of intertidal forests along a latitudinal gradient.
Currently in Orkney for the @BefScale Fucoid resilience experiment fieldwork π± π Exciting to see how differently the plots are recovering here compared to other regions π
Thank you so much to @challengersoc for funding my travel for this research trip ! πβ΄οΈ
Had a lovely couple of weeks in Newcastle doing some elemental analysis on samples from the @BefScale fucoid resilience experiment π± Also got the chance to check out the local sites for this experiment π
Thank you so much @Pippa_J_Moore & team for having us π
Pleased to share my latest PhD chapter; where me & @pimientoc investigate the rise & fall of shark functional diversity during the Cenozoic era.
Now published OA in @GEB_macro! π¦
Day 1 of the T3 #befscale fucoid resilience biogeographic survey done! With some π±growth measurements thrown into the bargain π stunning weather here today in southern FinistΓ¨re π«π· not many juveniles and lots of tired looking Osmundea π π€ we find the tags this summer!
Spring #befscale sampling done πWeather got unstuck from early-March just in time & was glorious! Too early for fucoid reproduction & lots of Osmundea in 100% removal plots for now. Nb: please admire Pr. Davoultβs reclined fucoid kelp tagging position π±π
Sunny fieldwork in South Wales this weekend βοΈ Monitoring the Pembrokeshire disturbance-recovery plots for the @BefScale resilience experiment π±
