Today, AB 884 passed the senate. This bill supports voters whose first language is not English and do not have sufficient knowledge of the language to vote without assistance. A win for immigrant language access! Track the bill here: https://t.co/KotNTS9qwY
This is #SanDiego City Council President @SeanEloRiveraD9 violating state law (the "Brown Act") by interrupting the public testimony of Susan Baldwin and @dannyavitiasd during a Special Session on... Brown Act violations.
Before Sean interrupted Susan and Danny, they were suggesting actual steps and actions the @SDCityCouncil can take to actually demonstrate their "unconditional commitment" to our right to speak freely- without interruption or other impediments- under the state's Public Meeting Law (Brown Act).
Please share these videos to help #SeanEloRiveraD9 and his colleagues understand the legal problems with his repeated interruptions and other actions.
(just kidding- they clearly don't want to understand the legal problems with his actions.)
This Saturday PANA held one of our political education sessions for the community. This session covered the extent to which racism is intertwined with US history, its policies on immigration, and its imperialist present. We hope to see continued engagement in our next sessions!
@gerardpatrick Or as a friend pointed out — ‘Recognizing a photo op he put the Secret Service guarding him at increased risk by telling them to wait, wait, wait while there was more potential danger to him and them.’
“In order for California to build trust, it has to be a multiracial and multilingual democracy, which means prioritizing and centering in language access,” said @pedrohzjr at @CommonCauseCA.

Join us, this Saturday Feb 24th from 6-8pm, to hear Mayoral Candidates discuss crucial community issues. The Mayor wields significant influence over city resources.
Excellent write up on D3 City Council candidates. I encourage D3 voters to read it before casting their ballots and not just automatically pull the lever for the incumbent.
Biased & discriminatory targeting by @DHSgov harms #BAMEMSA ppl, perpetuates false tropes, & makes no one safer. Read our coalition brief to a federal appeals court addressing these issues: https://t.co/LovIMtRLFd
“It is a tragedy, not just because there was a flood,” Secretary of State Shirley Weber said Saturday, “it was a tragedy of neglect.”
(@MayorToddGloria attended briefly, and left shortly after addressing breakfast attendees.)

@RyanDarsey Methinks the Director of Community Engagement doth protest too much — when spreading his ballot designation rather than his unbecoming LinkedIn profile — while aspiring to become a member of the San Diego County Democratic Central Committee.
If the storm runoff is now flowing harmlessly after a few days of clearing, WHY was it not done before last week’s rain that flooded people’s homes? Years of neglect by City leaders left underserved communities at risk? Lack of leadership before disaster left ppl victimized.
Tech oversight we fought for is on the chopping block Tuesday. All this while district 4, one of the most targeted by police surveillance, doesn't even have representation on City Council.
Refuse racism. Defend oversight. Call/email/e-comment, show up: https://t.co/HQaSOt47mI
