I'm glad he said this because it's MY biggest takeaway from the film. Obsession is ultimately a tragedy where a woman is stripped of her autonomy for the sake of fulfilling a "nice guy's" fantasy.
Tyler, The Creator explains how the negative reception of the album ‘CHERRY BOMB’ helped him mature his understanding of music:
“So I'm like: “hold on”. I took a step back. I was like: “What's the disconnect here?”. Because these bridges are insane. This these chords are crazy. This these melodies are crazy. So I had to take a timeout and be like, okay, what's the disconnect? [...] So because of that, I went back and was like: “I need to re-teach myself how to write songs”. I need to actually sit... What is a hook? What is a chorus? What is structure? What's the outro?”
