At the same time, concerns over youth unemployment, a struggling property sector, slowing growth, and declining opportunities have raised serious questions about the long-term sustainability of China's economic model.

The contrast is striking: while the world admires China's skyscrapers and megacities, many ordinary Chinese are fighting a daily battle for affordable housing, stable employment, and basic dignity.

The question is no longer how impressive China's rise has been.

The question is: what is the real cost behind that rise, and how much of it remains hidden from the outside world?
