Di MetLife Stadium, New Jersey, Messi jalan pelan menuju podium runner up. Bahunya sedikit membungkuk, matanya berkaca kaca saat medali perak digantung di lehernya.

Spanyol baru saja menang 1-0 lewat gol Ferran Torres di babak perpanjangan waktu. Argentina gagal pertahankan gelar. Tapi bagi jutaan orang yang nonton, malam itu bukan tentang kekalahan. Malam itu adalah tentang akhir sebuah era.

Messi berusia 39 tahun. Rambutnya sudah mulai memutih di pelipis, langkahnya nggak secepat dulu, tapi matanya masih sama. Penuh api, penuh cinta untuk sepakbola. Sepanjang turnamen cetak delapan gol, kasih assist krusial, dan bawa Argentina yang sempat terseok hingga final. Messi main kayak umur 29 tahun, bukan 39. Tapi usia nggak pernah bohong. Tubuhnya lelah, dan sepak bola tak lagi beri ruang untuk keajaiban selamanya.

Kita ingat Qatar 2022. Malam itu Messi mengangkat trofi yang selama 36 tahun tak pernah diraih Argentina. Air mata bahagia mengalir deras.
“Saya sudah lengkap,” katanya saat itu.

Tapi Tuhan memberinya satu babak lagi. Satu kesempatan terakhir untuk menari di panggung terbesar. "The Last Tango", begitu ia tulis di postingan sebelum final. Tango terakhir. Dan meski berakhir dengan nada sedih, tango itu tetap indah kok.

Bayangkan seorang anak kecil dari Rosario yang dulu menderita kekurangan hormon pertumbuhan, kini berdiri di final Piala Dunia untuk ketiga kalinya.

Lihat wajah para pemain Spanyol saat membuat guard of honour. Ada rasa hormat di mata mereka. Mereka tahu, mereka baru saja mengalahkan legenda hidup, panutan mereka sendiri.

Nggak lama lagi, Messi bakal ninggalin sepak bola. Mungkin beberapa bulan lagi di Inter Miami, mungkin satu atau dua pertandingan persahabatan terakhir dengan Argentina. Lalu lampu stadion akan padam untuknya. Nggak ada lagi momen ankara messi yang bikin bek lawan mati kutu. Nggak ada lagi senyuman malu malu saat ia mengangkat trofi.

Yang tersisa adalah warisan yang nggak bisa dihapus. Bukan hanya rekor gol, assist, atau Ballon d’Or. Tapi Messi ngajarin kita bahwa bakat saja tak cukup. Dibutuhkan hati yang besar, ketahanan yang luar biasa, dan cinta yang tak pernah pudar.

Untuk Leo, terima kasih. Terima kasih telah membuat jutaan anak di seluruh dunia percaya bahwa mimpi bisa diwujudkan meski berkekurangan dan tantangannya besar.

Kau bukan runner up malam ini, Leo. Kau adalah pemenang seumur hidup.

Sekarang, istirahat yang pantas. Dunia sepak bola akan terus berputar, tapi tak akan pernah sama lagi tanpamu.

A ver, para los que no saben de fútbol, les voy a explicar.

Scaloni quiere jugar al mismo futbol que en 2022, pero no puede porque tiene a un Messi de 39 años que no presiona. Cuando no tenés la pelota, jugas con 10, como le dijo Van Gaal a Riquelme.

Entonces con 10 jugadores tenes que lograr lo mismo que con 11. El desgaste de 11 jugadores lo hacen sólo 10.
¿Estoy en contra de Messi? No. Pero jugar con él tiene un precio. La brillantez que te aporta cuando tenemos la pelota, se paga con tener uno menos cuando no la tenemos.

¿cómo se plantea un partido así? Mucho mediocampo, defensa solida y laterales que hagan un desgaste increíble por las bandas. ¿El precio de eso? No se recuperan de un partido al otro entonces los tenés que rotar.

¿No les gusta Molina? Está perfecto, Montiel no puede jugar 120 minutos todos los partidos. Tenés que rotarlo.
Lo mismo con Tagliafico.

De Paul tiene una función en el equipo, no una posición. Su función es molestar y presionar alto. Correr atras de la pelota antes que llegue a 3/4 de cancha. No lo puede hacer 120 minutos y recuperarse. Entonces se rotó con Simeone.
Como la gente no entiende de funciones te dice que Simeone y De Paul corren como gallina sin cabeza y que juegan mal. No entienden nada, gente.

Enzo y Alexis jugaron en posiciones no naturales para aportar al equipo lo que el equipo necesitaba, mediocampo. No es la posición en la que brillan, no es la posición en la que están cómodos. Pero cumplieron su rol.

Julián y Lautaro no pueden jugar de 9, porque tienen que hacer la función de presión alta y no quedan pivoteando arriba porque tienen que bajar a defender y el que queda de refencia es Messi. Obvio que al hacer esto se desgastan físicamente y hay que rotarlos. Hay partidos que por su manera de jugar son para uno u otro de arranque y que el otro entre a los 60-70 minutos de partido con frescura.

Precisamente en la final se te lesionaron 4 jugadores, 3 los cambiaste y uno quedó jugando roto (taglia). Eso te comió 3 cambios que usualmente usás para el recambio de energía arriba y lo usaste para cambiar defensores.

A Messi no lo podés sacar porque es Messi y nadie quiere que salga. Entonces el precio de que Messi no salga es todo esto que expliqué arriba. Y también te impide jugar con doble 9 como piden algunos.

No pueden ser tan ingratos con Scaloni. Deberían abrir los ojos cuando miran un partido, sino es como dice Sherlock "miran pero no observan".
