I'm late because I'm rarely here now, but big shout out to my mother. I developed ME in high school; the lengths she went to for my safety were, and are, incredible.
It's likely no one else in the state had graduated with a mainstream diploma without doing PE before I did.
As World ME day and Mother’s Day coincide this year, let’s recognize that many mothers are caring for not only juveniles with ME, but also for their adult children with ME who have been ill for decades.
As I was a rare juvenile at the time, & had co-morbid autoimmune conditions as well as autism, we didn't know it was ME. But we did know that my cardiac insufficiency due to orthostatic intolerance could've killed me had I tried to do any more sports. My parents believed me.
The Truth about Painkillers | National Affairs
A must read for anyone wondering “What is the truth about the opioid crisis/epidemic/painkiller painkiller story, anyway?”
A detailed, long-form narrative on this very important topic by Sally Satel, MD: https://t.co/o1VM98H7Ws
Amazingly, this free speech mecca still throttles links to a particular blogging website, but here is a screenshot of a post you can read by Paul Offit where he responds to RFK Jr.'s story about how he totally pwned Paul Offit on the phone 20 years ago
Three days remain this fiscal year. Proposed budget cuts to NYC libraries will mean shortened hours and reduced resources, and could end weekend service in branches across the city. Tell @NYCMayor and @NYCCouncil: #NoCutsToLibraries before it's too late: https://t.co/ecbJbWzpht
“Alcohol kills 140,000 people annually, and gun violence killed more than 48,000 people [in 2021]. So these issues alone are big problems. But when they’re combined, it’s when they are most deadly.” https://t.co/UL320d9lvj
RSV wasn’t caused by vaccine research.
HIV didn’t emerge from polio vaccines.
Nobody knew flu was caused by a virus in 1918, much less leaked it from a vaccine lab.
Gain of function research has nothing to do with these pathogens.
This is the kind of wrong that kills people.
@DocOnSkis@drkeithsiau For the people who follow me for how I like to medical code silly things, I can confirm that this is the correct code for having a gerbil in the anus.
Over 200 dogs surprised a lifelong dog lover for his 100th birthday. Dr. Robert Moore has always loved dogs. For his big milestone, his daughter Alison decided to post on Nextdoor asking people to bring their dogs in front of their house to wish Robert a happy birthday...
@marklewismd Currently a cause of morbidity code for this is indeterminate; I am no longer in the coder pool but I was the first class using ICD10 and thought I knew them all. I can't solve this one. It's not intentional self-harm. It's not a transport accident. I would have to put X50.
@brreeaad@markcovey@RyanMarino I'm late back to the party because I got sick but yes, it is a perfectly fine question! Just as a vaccine researcher I get trolled by antivaxxers often and didn't want to answer something that wasn't in good faith. Thankfully someone else provided the answer while I was down!
I lost a mentor, Dr. Leonard Reiffe, to multiple myeloma in 2020. At the time of his diagnosis I was one of four people at our workplace who knew anything about it; he honored me with his trust. I donate to MM research in his memory. This brings hope.
