Maybe, rather than valuing 'experts', we're going to have to value the concrete results that people or teams are actually producing.
Or what would being an AI 'expert' actually mean?
A Machine Learning expert is an AI expert, but may not have the kind of skills that are needed right now. And when most people talk about AI experience, they're 'assuming' it means generative AI, right?
How have so many AI experts appeared in such a short time?
Well, it depends on how we define an expert. If we're talking about people with 'decades' of experience working with AI, there would be very few.
So how do you stand out? Go looking for the odd, the strange, the improbable. Take more risks. Use AI to break the mold, not to fit it better. Long live the difference!
Same with presentations and reports. Everyone using AI, everyone converging on the same aesthetic, the same form and, sooner or later, the same content.
AI is unlikely to make these connections on its own, without someone leading it there. It's our anomalous, imperfect, casual, curious nature that makes the difference.
Have you ever drawn inspiration from an unrelated field to improve your work
The similarities are striking: form follows function. Craft and art at scale — custom development and packaged software. The fearless use of new materials. The minimalism we now take for granted in any interface.
The difference: nobody gets decades to redesign this time. And we're not talking about the body of the car — we're talking about the engine of the company.
The window is open. In a few years the efficiency gap will be impossible to clo
Pre-agentic-AI companies are, at best, using AI to speed up the processes they already had. The most innovative ones redefine one or two.
It's the same mistake as the first automobiles: carriages with an engine bolted on.
