@AdlucemSophia@Philosophi_Cat @HazelAppleyard_ Exactly too many people just rattle off whatever pithy slogan they absorbed somewhere rather than actually thinking about their lives and values and change their minds when, if, they do. Mom probably should have taught her a bit better to try to avoid that though.
@wanyeburkett Weren't women raking some democrat politician over the coals for referring to "unwanted rape" some years back? Similar type of joke. Or that West Wing joke about the guy "accidentally" sleeping with a prostitute and Toby's like "did you slip?"
@darkfang1989@memeticsisyphus Tbf it makes it pretty clear what the context of the tweet is. People in her social circle are not dating men with criminal records. So if they end up with an abuser it's one of those covert types of abusers.
@memeticsisyphus Gives me super creeps when white boomers nod approvingly about another race kind of taking over their neighborhood. Like, populations shift, I don't expect them to be mad about it, but why are they glad?
@Sun_king97@peternorvig1816@memeticsisyphus I was using "who" to delimit a subset, if delimit is the word I want. Not all abusers but specifically the ones who have that excuse used for them.
@Sun_king97@peternorvig1816@memeticsisyphus I didn't even think she was trying to generalize to all violent men, I thought it was pretty obvious she was talking about abusers and their family who use the excuse of "lost control", maybe she just made the wrong assumptions to get in under the character limit.
@blakeston888@notsocrazy24@memeticsisyphus X has character limits so we often have to assume our audience will get the context of what we're talking about. Personally I got it, I thought it was a pretty common trope.
@moontruther34@Dave66925928150 I'm sure part of it was raising kids in an ecosystem of strict expectations so there was no one person holding the line by themselves, but I'd still expect to learn some tricks from them.
@moontruther34@Dave66925928150 Yes it's so weird to me how boomer grandparents obviously were either more chill *or* more strict but anyway have no access to it anymore. Like I'd be fine with older relatives disciplining my kids if they want certain behavior but they just throw up their hands.
@sympatheticopp@nvpkp Either that or it's just a reflexive thing like when the check in person at the gym says have a nice workout and you say thanks you too.
@HarleyFQuinn777@CassandraRules Exactly like people can't always help how they look, maybe the skinniness and shaved head are important for other roles, but the nails c'mon now.
