(3/3) 2 - I had wanted to squeeze in a paragraph or two talking about my Peranakan heritage and share this glorious Relatives' Name Song video (music and lyrics by Alvin Oon): https://t.co/n6N8fCKxS7. Also, whoever came up with 'anak chuchi perot' deserves a prize.
(2/3) 1 - Alternate title of this post: 'I can't remember my grandfather's name'. I still cannot remember, I refuse to ask anyone, I'm still willing myself to have the answer spring✨on me at 2am some day.
(1/3) It's my turn to be on the #infantstudies Researcher Spotlight! I turned a bit of my #ICIS2024 poster on kinship terms into a blog post for the Baby Blog. If nothing else, click to see the cute images courtesy of @suzyjstyles and the @BLIPLabNTU crew. Some outtakes:
It's been a blast (re)posting about the talks and posters for #ICIS2024. Finally met @delgamandah and overall chair of the Communications Committee @JKileyHamlin in person (sorry @maheensidd91 we missed each other; next week maybe!). See you all online... or in Panama #ICIS2026!
Come by P2-H-401 if you want to hear about tone templates in Mandarin (I switched my 2 posters for better flow, if you want to know about kinship terms I can show you that too!) #ICIS2024@Infantstudies
Who are these lovely people, and what do they call each other? In more work from @BLIPLabNTU at #ICIS2024 from @ruisearch is presenting our work on NAMING in families in multilingual Singapore in a poster today.

@viccyhan@suzyjstyles@BLIPLabNTU@ruisearch What a #WILD2024 ride! The audience laughed, the audience participated, I overran, aiyaiyai. If you missed my bullet-train speed, you can access the slides here which will also link to the other sources within the presentation: https://t.co/C0IySsH7T0
2/2 @ruisearch news: Separately, today I also begin a new Research Fellow position with @DrGemmaCalvert at the Nanyang Business School (different department but still in NTU Singapore so same same but different). New things abound! 🥳
1/2 @ruisearch news: Look, it me! This is a side project that began in February this year, look out for my emails if you recently published a paper in the Infancy journal! 📚
📢Family Name Game, S$5 for participation 📢
Do you call paternal grandpa 'Ye Ye' and maternal grandma 'nenek'? But only younger brother thambi calls Daddy 'Di Di'?
Help us compile a list of family terms in all our languages in Singapore!

New year, new (open-access) paper! https://t.co/tuKdaJXRjO I'm one step closer to the front of the author list! :p This is a follow-up to the previous paper (w/ the same esteemed co-authors, my supervisors Marilyn Vihman and Tamar Keren-Portnoy, and @mits_ota and Shanshan Lou)...
Today I came dressed to impress, w/ my IPA symbols dress and @BLIPLabNTU mask. I asked S the photographer and social media manager if I could have a lab sticker; she included the bag swag and even got a candid of me looking into the middle distance (they got the right SM person).
In @ruisearch news: been waiting (so long!) to say this - I am vair excited to be joining @BLIPLabNTU as a postdoc under the care of @suzyjstyles, @FeitingW & the rest of the gang! Yay more multilingual Sg child speech, yay (?) (I jest, of course yay 😈) more transcription! 🎉
Wheee it's OUT - this girl's first (open access too!) article w/ her wondyful supervisors Marilyn Vihman and Tamar Keren-Portnoy (and @mits_ota and Shanshan Lou)! Clearly, they know my life motto, always saving the best for the last 😏. (I jest, obvs.) https://t.co/7YKB8FkNZc
