In the Hina Javed murder case, the victim's brother, Fahad Javed, during a press conference, expressed complete mistrust in the police investigation and the high-level committee formed by the Chief Minister of Punjab, demanding the Prime Minister, Chief Minister, and Army Chief to constitute an impartial judicial commission. On the other hand, according to the DNA summary report that has come to light, the DNA and fingerprints of the nominated suspects—husband Faisal Asghar, father-in-law Fayyaz Asghar, and employee Zeeshan Arshad—have matched with the victim's body, clothes, and the murder weapon. The report has revealed that she was strangled to death after severe resistance. Meanwhile, the high-powered committee headed by DG CCD Sohail Zafar Chattha, reviewing the case afresh, had also interrogated the suspects at Adiala Jail.

We hosted a screening of The Clown by Kamil Chima, with the Pakistan Film Society. The award-winning short, which took the Satyajit Ray Short Film Award at the London Indian Film Festival, is a story about a woman confronting patriarchy. The evening brought together young people, film enthusiasts, diplomats and activists.

The conversation afterward focused on how stories about girls shape what they believe is possible for them. This year’s International Day of the Girl Child theme, “Invest in her future,” calls on all of us to back that belief with resources.
