Great to see that the first ever #NationalSQPweek is taking place next month. Whether you're a companion animal, livestock or equine SQP or work with SQPs, this is a great campaign to get involved in. It will see a nationwide celebration of the vital role SQPs (Animal Medicines Advisors) play in safeguarding the health and wellbeing of livestock and pets across the UK. Although SQPs are highly trained and qualified professionals, many people who interact with them don’t fully understand their expertise or the benefits they bring. This campaign aims to change that. There's a great online toolkit to make taking part really easy. See below for more details.

Great campaign from @UKNOAH to mark #worldparasiteawarenessday#useitrighttreatthemright
The campaign highlights that:
Parasites are more than just a nuisance – they can pose genuine health risks to pets and, in some cases, people.
Seeking professional advice before treatment helps ensure a risk‑based approach tailored to a pet’s individual lifestyle.
Always following the medication instructions protects people, pets, and the environment. Find out more below 👇👇👇
Today we launch Use It Right, Treat Them Right for World Parasite Awareness Day!
Parasite control isn’t just about treating pets, it’s about protecting people and the environment.
✔ Assess risk
✔ Get professional advice
✔ Follow product & disposal instructions
🌍 It's World Parasite Awareness Day! At RUMA Companion Animal & Equine, we’re championing responsible, risk‑based use of parasiticides to protect pets while minimising environmental impact.
We’re supporting vets, SQPs and owners with evidence‑based guidance and practical protocols in our dedicated parasiticides resource hub on our website — helping ensure treatments are used effectively, safely and sustainably.

Congratulations to our Chair, Gwyn Jones, who has been awarded a British Empire Medal (BEM) for services to animal health and welfare in the King’s New Years Honours List. He was the inspiration and instigator behind the founding of RUMA CA&E, recognising that there was a need to co-ordinate and focus effort and resource, beyond farming and agriculture, on the important issue of AMR and the responsible use of medicines across the companion animal and equine sector too. Great to see the launch of this survey from @vmdgovuk which will help gather feedback on how pet owners use and dispose of flea and tick treatments. If you work directly with pet owners please encourage them to provide feedback which will help build an evidence base for future action to protect both pets and the environment.
📣 Calling all pet owners who use flea and tick spot-ons!
Take our 15-minute survey to share how you use and dispose of these treatments.
Your input will help build the evidence base for future action to protect both pets and the environment.
