Read our statement on the @BritAthletics consultation on XC distances here: https://t.co/H4KmRGhX7w
Their survey is open until Jan 29th.
We ask all discussing this to do as you would in your clubhouse post race - with shared respect and friendship, whatever your view. πππββοΈπββοΈ
@andywaterman Especially for women, low numbers of entries mean its usually a poor competitive experience - more often than not it is a lonely solo time trial, and often even if it is a championship race will have low billing on the programme compared with the men's races.
@andywaterman I think its not on most road/xc runners radar, its seen as something for the proper fast people (ie national level), and its really exposing - it takes courage to put yourself out there and a few races to get used to it.
Looking through @AthleticsWeekly from early 1970s to find examples of road races for women.
Back page of AW from 7th April 1973 - road races listed for men are 4 miles, 6 miles, 8 miles, 20 miles & a marathon. Just one road race for women & it's one mile!

@katehelencarter totally agree. tried to do similar myself. Reassurance of having someone else of a similar pace works - used that to triple our clubs turnout from 2-6 at a local meet. Also ran a 5,000m event just for our club which was a great way to give people their first taste of it
@katehelencarter And the last thing track needs are more barriers for women looking to put themselves out there. An event like night of the 10k PBs can only fill 2 womens races vs 6 mens despite many being able to qualify, even harder to get full womens fields at other events
@EilishMccolgan@srmills90 Such a joy to watch your great performance and a truly storming last 2k. For all female athletes we refuse to accept 'always secondary' - so we continue to advocate for equal billing, coverage, prizes and distances! πͺ
Thank you. The fact McColganβs victory was reduced to a couple of paragraphs at the end of a story has really annoyed me.
What hope is there for womenβs sport getting coverage in the mainstream press when a near European record has to play second fiddle?

On #IWD2022 letβs raise a glass to all those pioneering women who have campaigned for gender equality in our sport over the years.
They have all met with resistance, some have been laughed at, but they persisted.
Letβs all continue #BreakingTheBias ππ
A rare exception to the rule that if a headline is a question, the answer is no. Great work from @maudhodson and @run_equal.

#WomensHistoryMonth - female running pioneers.
In 1926 Violet Piercy ran a marathon distance from Windsor to London in 3:40:22 - recognised by @WorldAthletics as 1st world best time for womenβs marathon.

@spkinson Some organisers dont even allow women and men to run the same course. Whats the betting some wouldnt allow women to do the fun obstacles? Definitely in favour of testing and fun courses, but only if its for everyone.
"On January 5, @run_equal submitted their first proposalΒ to the NCAA, in which their main demand was that men and women race the same distance in cross-country, across all three divisions, by 2023."

Please SIGN THE PETITION for #RunEqual2023 in the @NCAA! I joined forces with iconic distance runners in the U.S. to ask the @NCAA for equal distance races at Div I - III Cross-Country Championship events.

@Laulaubird Hello - do you know if the seniors are newly equalised? If so it is likely this is in line with World Athetics guidance and world champs distances from a few years back.
