In 1985, Betty Springs, Freihofer's Run for Women defending champion, & Francie Larrieu-Smith, produced the closest finish in Freihofer's history. Both athletes recorded a course record 32:14, a tie was declared & they became the first ever dual USA 10K National Champions!

Good luck to everyone running the London Marathon. By the time you finish the 26.2 mile course you'll have burnt a days worth of calories! At roughly 100 calories a mile each finisher will have run off about 2,620 calories or the equivalent of a yummy 14 inch cheese pizza!

Congratulations to Paul Lonyangata who recently retained his title at the Paris Marathon.
Lonyangata became the 1st man to win back-to-back titles since Steve Brace of Britain in 1989 & 1990. Lonyangata won in 2:06:25, 15 seconds slower than his win in 2017.

Abebe Bikila was an Ethiopian Olympic marathon champion. Bikila won Olympic gold in 1960 while running barefoot. In 1964, he made headlines again for defending his Olympic marathon title, setting a world record in the process. Legend!
