There is no narrative reason for Superman to keep his identity secret besides an attachment to tradition they've long left behind.

The identity reveal is not a fuck-up. It is continuously proven to not be a fuck-up with every recent issue of Superman that is unconcerned with the Daily Planet and Clark Kent.

It was and is the correct direction for Superman to take after marrying Lois.

Lois is the center-piece of the secret identity drama, so once that's solved, the secret itself becomes vestigial.

The only reason to revisit would be a child to protect and they did that with Jon, then he became Superboy and was aged up.

Out of the traits you listed, he is most consistently humorous and openly compassionate, otherwise the other traits very directly conflict with the core premise of the character which is his secret identity.

Yeah I think you’re just describing Superman displaying stoic qualities, rather than Superman being a stoic character. Being composed, hiding what you’re feeling in certain situations, or maintaining confidence when you’re bothered doesn’t inherently make someone stoic. Otherwise we’d have to call an enormous number of characters stoic.

I actually agree that All-Star leans more heavily into that characterization (probably because of his impending doom), and the 1978 interview has Superman deliberately presenting a calm, reassuring public persona but Superman generally isn’t characterized by emotional reserve.

Clark is usually warm, expressive, affectionate, humorous, openly compassionate, and emotionally vulnerable with the people close to him.

Superman can behave stoically sometimes without stoicism being one of his defining personality traits. Just like a normally stoic character can have highly emotional moments without suddenly becoming an emotional character.

This depiction of Superman as someone much softer and more open is a recent invention.
