Every January, top talent from around the world converges to Houston to vie for record-smashing times and to set the tone for the season ahead.
For the past two months, we’ve paid a few trips to the dirt roads of Colorado and the quiet stretches of Utah, tracing the steps of Joe Klecker and Conner Mantz.
Two guys ready to take a journey into the unknown on Jan. 19th – where speed meets endurance and ambition meets the unrelenting pavement.
This is The Road to Houston.
🎥 A two-part series coming to the CITIUS MAG YouTube channel next week.
22nd - 2:15:43
I didn’t feel like I was out of place I just didn’t know what happened during the race. Maybe I didn’t fuel enough but I will figure it out
I was top 30 from the start and wanted to slowly pick people off. I was 14th through mile 22 and my body just shut down🥲
I thought our 13 PMP at altitude was tough
13 miles at marathon pace on the treadmill to simulate the heat and easy fueling.

It feels great to finally run faster than my highschool 2 mile PB in a workout.
HS 3200 PB: 9:10
workout 3x2mile (solo)
4:49,4:45 (9:34)
4:41, 4:42 (9:23)

In Phoenix for Christmas. First workout at sea level in years 🤭
Last week I did 12x 1k at 3:07 average
Today I did 5x2k at 5:51 average
All at 5000 feet on grass
Can you tell where my strength comes from. the 2ks felt smoother than the 1ks did. I was getting dropped during the 1k repeats as well. The group was running around 2:50-2:55.
Sometimes the best runs are the ones with the least technology.
No heart rate
No smartphone
No notifications
No music.
Just feel.
Looking forward to more of those in 2024.
Apparently it’s unrealistic to believe and train for something faster. The problem with sharing your thoughts and journey on social media
Imagine if Tigist Assefa said I’m going to lower the world record by 2 mins and PR by 4 mins. People would call her crazy and unrealistic
45 more miles until my first ever 4K year.
To put that in perspective.
50.5 weeks/3955 = average of 78.3 miles a week
354 days / 3955 = average of 11.17 miles a day
started training for the marathon after graduating but not finishing my college eligibility in late June 👀
