Indian expatriate rescued in ibadan, kidnappers still at large

An Indian expatriate, Renjith Pillai, 42, has been rescued unharmed after being kidnapped at Aqua Triton Company in Ogunmakin Village, Idi-Ayunre, Ibadan, Oyo State, police sources confirmed.

The victim, whose abduction was first reported on Jan. 17, 2026, regained his freedom on Wednesday evening around 6:30 p.m., according to a report from the Commander of Idi-Ayunre division.

He was reunited with his family following his release.

Police said a joint team of the police and strategic partners is currently pursuing the kidnappers, who remain at large.

Investigation into the incident is ongoing to ensure the perpetrators are apprehended and brought to justice.

Malian Armed Forces Apprehend Notorious Terrorist Mohamed Ould Elkehil in Djebock

The Malian Armed Forces (FAMa) have captured Mohamed Ould Elkehil, a veteran terrorist operative in the Sahel region, in a successful operation in Amasrakad, within the Djebock sector. The arrest marks a significant victory in the fight against extremism in the region.

Elkehil has been active in various terrorist organizations since 2012, including the Movement for Unity and Jihad in West Africa (MUJAO), the Islamic State in the Greater Sahara (EIGS), and the Coordination of Azawad Movements/High Council for Unity of Azawad (CMA/HCUA), which he recently left to rejoin EIGS.

Elkehil’s actions have left a trail of devastation, particularly in the Djebock sector. He is accused of causing the deaths of over 20 families and bearing responsibility for the deaths of numerous individuals, including Anara, a well-respected figure, Sidehame Ag Foukana, and Corporal Inawelane Ag Intassawalte of the Malian Army, among others.

Despite his infamy, Elkehil managed to evade capture for eight years, allegedly finding refuge in Algeria where he lived a quiet life while coordinating criminal activities.

The arrest has been widely celebrated across Mali, Libya, Algeria, and Niger, with thousands expressing gratitude toward the Malian Transitional President, General Assimi Goïta, and Defense Minister, General Sadio Camara.
