🚨High Court halts sale of Peterborough’s only Hindu mandir🙏

A High Court judge has temporarily blocked the sale of the building that houses the Bharat Hindu Samaj Mandir in Peterborough, UK. The council had planned to sell it to a Muslim group through a non-transparent process, but worshippers launched a legal challenge to protect their sacred space.

The decision to sell the Mandir was taken by Peterborough City Council’s Cabinet, with Councillor Mohammed Jamil, the Cabinet Member for Finance and Corporate Governance, defending the sale. Other councillors, like Roger Antunes, criticised the council’s handling of the process and called for greater transparency.

The Mandir has served the Hindu community for around 40 years, offering worship, cultural events, and community support for thousands of people. In granting the injunction, the court said there is a strong case for review and ordered the council not to take any irreversible steps toward selling the property until the legal challenge is resolved.

Supporters raised nearly £36,000 in just a few days to fund their fight. This is a major victory for heritage, fairness, and the principle that sacred spaces should not be treated like ordinary assets. 🙏🇬🇧
