You know, even though I post big fat anime tiddies from time to time, I don’t consider myself a weeb. I just have a fascination with good art and Japanese culture. Much in the same way I’m fascinated by English, Scottish and Irish culture. Or ancient Egypt. Anyways...tiddies!!!
In the Frasier series finale, Kelsey Grammer recites the entire final stanza of Alfred Tennyson’s Victorian-era poem “Ulysses,” about the last voyage of Odysseus, in an episode that was seen by twenty-five million people.
The first six minutes of Konchalovsky’s 1997 TV Odyssey, four screenshots:
• Odysseus exulting in his homeland, holding his newborn son.
• The fleet in the Aegean, in a perfect Mediterranean landscape.
• Odysseus praying before a statue of Athena in his home.
• The nuptial chamber with the olive-tree bed.
The budget and production values of this made-for-TV adaptation are nowhere near Nolan’s, but from the very beginning you can feel the Mediterranean, its landscapes, fauna and flora, the closeness of gods and family, the interweaving of myth and real life, and the tension between the raw and the ideal.
And COLORS!
