Are elections less violent in South Africa & Botswana than in Tanzania & Mozambique due to differences in the countries' electoral systems or in their levels of democracy?
We’re accepting paper proposals for our 2026 Virtual Elections Conference. The conference is free, fully online, and taking place the week of July 6, 2026 (Deadline: March 31)

@kareem_carr Interesting. I'm a statistics learner. What would that imply for policy? Would that be the same thing as saying when people say, on average, taking a vaccine makes people healthier, it's reasonable to point out cases where that fails? If yes, what policy direction should follow?
Hello! I am hiring for two positions. One based at UCSD (first review of applicants next week) and one based in Mozambique (rolling review). Please see information here: https://t.co/qZegti68uz
@LynneStactia Smith was a patriotic Zimbabwean??? Which Zimbabwe? When did the country become Zimbabwe? When did Smith contribute to infrastructure development & with what view?
@OMtyambizi@matigary I'm not a Pastor. But any woman who departs from her husband for any reason other than being divorced for adultery is violating God's law. So is the man marrying her. Jesus said so. But the bible doesn't say such women no longer have a place in the church.
@daddyhope I think its a lie many have conveniently told & its unfortunate even academics & so-called analysts continue with it. Mugabe said he had confided in Mbeki about this. Jonathan Moyo revealed it before Nov 2017. Mzembi recently said it again. So where are people getting from?
@daddyhope Not to defend the woman, but 2 things from watching the full show: 1. Woman was married soon after O level - could it be she genuinely didn't know he was the father? 2. At some point this man threatened, with gun in hand, to shoot the woman. He is NO LONGER bitter.
@mutssy_Salani@djollah_7 That's not the only thing that matters. What viewers & listeners say matters, perhaps even more. They are the ones these guys like @djollah_7 make a profit out of. That's why they don't privately interview each other with their "understanding". There is morality at stake.
@djollah_7 We mustnt unquestionably take what other countries are doing for a standard/as good. If it isnt good (moral), lets not copy. How does it benefit anyone? What is worse, because of how accessible these podcasts are, compared to traditional media, even tweens & teenagers are exposed
@drDendere I think this becomes problematic when its said without action to address obvious previous elections' gaps. & I wonder if it doesn't discourage people when they become accustomed to such statements which are always followed by rigging claims when elections are then held.
Following public discussions since November 2024 has been fascinating. Outsiders are clearly invested in & have strong opinions on America's politics. The good news? They have midterm elections coming soon in the U.S. - an important litmus test for the people who matter!
