How great is this? The Oklahoma softball team celebrated their National Championship win singing “Nobody but Jesus” by @castingcrowns on the field after the game.
We stand at an important time in the history of our Convention. I pray our unity is displayed by the important decisions we will make together next week, as we unite under one roof.
And please... may we be more kind, gracious, & loving to one another there, than we are on here.
(8) The Great Commission is our mission.
This is the reason we came together 177 yrs ago. Billions have been given, thousands have been reached, & nations have been impacted for the gospel. Satan is crafty & wants to divide. We must remain steadfast. (Matt 29:18-20; 1 Pet 5:8)
(7) The Gospel calls us to more.
Some are defaming, discrediting & dishonoring others in our family. The SBC is still the largest voice of conservative theology & the enemy wants to divide us. The gospel calls us to more unity & charity, for God's glory. (1 Cor. 3:9; 2 Cor. 6:1)
(6) Charity must return.
Families squabble, but they come back together. If we can’t squabble, then move forward together despite disagreement, we’re in trouble. We won’t achieve uniformity, but we must strive for unity. Eternal things are on the line. (1 Corinthians 13:4–8)
(5) Jesus is the our King.
No one else - no person, no kindred, no country - holds leadership over us like Jesus Christ. We must give our full allegiance to him, care for those in his family, & focus on the kingdom building mission he’s called us too. (Matt. 28:19-20)
(4) Grace is the foundation of our fellowship.
Together, we’re the Southern Baptist Convention. Because we’ve been saved by grace & called to be people of grace, we must love in grace, forgive in grace, & move forward together in grace. If not, we will not last. (Eph. 2:8-9)
(3) Truth is our friend.
We rejoice when truth is brought to light, however devastating that truth may be. Devastating truth should lead us to respond in repentance. (John 3:21)
(2) Compassion is a command.
Believers are called to be kind & compassionate to one another, not bombastic, rude, or deceptive. Therefore, we must show honor in how we treat each other. (Eph. 4:32; 1 John 3:17; Rom. 12:10)
(1) The Bible is our inerrant, sufficient authority.
The Word of God advises every challenge ahead of us, however, it is not exhaustive for handling every situation ahead of us. (2 Tim. 3:16-17)
When a fam as large as the SBC cooperates together, there is sure to be disagreement. We must find common ground in the Bible & BF&M, & stay nested up as close to those as possible.
As we head to Anaheim, here are 8 truths we can find common ground in & guard our coop. mission.
