@j_bambrick I don't think it's typical, but I can name 2 friends who have them. One couplelives in it as their home and is retired. The other is a dual income family whose kids went to school on scholarship. And their cars are old.
I suspect you are seeing a lot of debt, not ownership.
We sent all our kids to public school for the first time this year and boy, have I developed a lot of bitterness toward all the people who spent my entire life bad-mouthing public schools and the teachers who work there.
