@adrianmckinty It’s a totally surreal place IMHO - the friendliest people in the world with the ability to sniff out pretentiousness at 100 paces, mixed with a general linguistic agility and wit - no wonder new arrivals are astonished

@adrianmckinty Spot on. I was at university in England in 1980s and hated asking for anything in a shop as an Ulster accent was immediately viewed with suspicion. It wasn’t until I realised that my education was as good as and probably better than many other students that I found my voice
