@AJWS Global Ambassador & past President. Inspired by the Jewish commitment to justice, AJWS works to realize human rights & end poverty in the developing world
As I leave the US this week to travel to Rwanda to help found a global peace institute my mind, and body will be singing Dr. Reagon on and remembering her most powerful words: “We who believe in freedom cannot rest until it’s won.”
When I stepped down from my position as CEO of @ajws, there was a celebratory event. My only song request, which I thought improbable, was that Dr. Reagon and Sweet Honey perform. And lo and behold there she was, and there they were, weaving their musical magic.
I greatly admired Dr. Ruth’s candor, sense of humor and chutzpah and am deeply saddened to learn of her passing. She inspired many and was great fun to be with at any event or in any friend’s living room.

Tomorrow, the mayor wants to start evicting 3,500 families with children from shelters in the middle of winter -- disrupting students' lives, uprooting them from their shelters, and creating unnecessary hardship.
We can't let that happen. #EndShelterEvictions now.

I was saddened to learn of Harry Belafonte's passing today. Beyond his incredible talents as a singer and performer, Harry was an activist, advocating for civil rights in the U.S., education & HIV/AIDS prevention in Africa, & more. May his memory be a blessing & an inspiration.
I am honored to speak at this event launching the Irene Butter Fund for Holocaust and Human Rights Education. Those in the Ann Arbor area: please join us on April 15 at 4pm: https://t.co/0AcR1sNpFu
Most of our forebears came to the U.S. from somewhere else, fleeing oppression. All of them sought freedom, as did the ancestors whose journeys we celebrate at the Seder. This Passover, let's remember the obligation & the mitzvah of welcoming the stranger.https://t.co/OGAOnA8jWQ
