I was watching a planet show for kids with my son the other day, and I was astounded at the level of musical excellence employed just to help children grasp and remember planetary science.

I was in my boss’ car on the way to a shoot when I heard it.

I thought it was a secular song until I discovered that Takit was the artist.

It is not a gospel song. It is a song about self-actualization.

That is not wrong in itself, but it is not an incense to God.

Praise is not something for our excitement.

I saw the choir of a church performing that song yesterday, and the whole place erupted.

I sighed because the Nigerian church keeps getting it wrong.

We have put ourselves at the centre of liturgy, doctrine, and ecclesiology.

Practically everything is now configured, engineered, and steered to excite and evoke, so that we can say we had a good experience in church.

That retains the crowd. But what about God?

Praise is His due, and it is to be done in holiness. It comes from the Trisagion of the seraphim around the throne:

“Holy, holy, holy is the LORD of hosts.”— Isaiah 6:3

This is why the Psalmist says:

“Worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness.”— Psalm 29:2

Praise is about God. Did Scripture not say, “Praise is awaiting You, O God, in Zion”?

“Praise is awaiting You, O God, in Zion;
And to You the vow shall be performed.”— Psalm 65:1

But we have injected ourselves into it.

It is worrying, but God is on the throne. Things will be better.

ADML is not a praise song. It should not be on the pulpit.

2. Go back to PRAYER. Ask. Seek. Knock.
