Birmingham City University urged not to axe Black Studies MA and target 5 Black members of staff for redundancy. “In the US there is an attack on Black intellectual thought, in the UK there is so little in higher ed that the problem is erasure" https://t.co/nLpUu1vEB3
It's wild that I have to do this, but @HeidiBachram clipped 57 seconds of this video to misrepresent me. I use a quote from a conversation with Kurt Vonnegut and Susan Sontag, in which she discusses human behaviour after studying the Holocaust. In that context, I talk about human behaviour and how we can build community in the lead-up to the next general election. In this video, I actually say that reform voters are not devils. Yet due to NOT watching the full video, @RobertJenrick is saying I am comparing reform voters to nazis. Truth matters, folks, even on X.

Both of these faith communities face prejudice, racism, threats and violence.
Both communities should receive the same treatment and neither should have to fight harder than the other for the state’s protection.
One of the #BritishValues taught in every school is: “Mutual respect & tolerance for those with different faiths & beliefs”
Many assume this guarantees equality for all
Equality should mean the same rules, equal definitions, the same measurements, equal rights to protection.
Swipe through the slides &see if this statement of equality is reflected in reality for British Jews & Muslims.
In a week where UK government redefined #Islamophobia as Anti-Muslim Hostility & the world recognises UN Day to Combat Islamophobia it’s worth analysing the facts
The racism at the heart of these assumptions about “the Muslim vote” is undeniable
Believing “a racial or ethnic group share the same characteristics, abilities, or behaviours” is central to any definition of racism
British Muslims are not a monolith nor do they only care about foreign policy issues.
Over the past few days I’ve spoken to dozens of Muslim voters across Gorton and Denton.
The most common issues they raised were local issues: litter, traffic, housing, cost of living
Smears. Suspensions. Arrests. The Index of Repression documents how solidarity with Palestine is being targeted across the UK.
