@PaulFiore YES. Since the Jets landed at #2, the move has been clear: go get #1. You can’t waste another year. A veteran QB only lands you in no-man’s land. Draft Mendoza now WITH a veteran QB, and keep the rebuild moving.
@Playlikeajet1 Passing on the only quarterback worth taking would feel like adding an ADDITIONAL year to the rebuild. Is there a realistic offer the Jets could make that would convince the Raiders to trade back from No. 1—and if that offer exists, should the Jets actually make it?
@NYJetsTFMedia WHAT IF Jets trade up to #1 to select Mendoza; Raiders collect some picks in return and then they take Moore (who may secretly be their 1A) at pick 2? Win-win. What, it can happen.
@NomadicGuitar@Michael_Nania@jetsxfactor Hey man, you might be right and this could continue to be a disaster. But a knee-jerk reaction of firing him without a credited replacement, and in a rebuild, would set the team back even further. If we see the same shit-show 7 games in next season under AG, I'll take the L.
@NomadicGuitar@Michael_Nania@jetsxfactor Not saying we're champions next year haha. We're in a rebuild, and whether you like it or not, it will take time. Dan Campbell said his team would "bite off kneecaps" and only won 3 games his 1st year. They've been solid since. I expect a better yr 2.
@NomadicGuitar@Michael_Nania@jetsxfactor FWIW, AG wasn’t my top choice — I wanted Josh McCown for his offensive mind and for QB development. That said, I don't think this year/roster showed us what AG's ceiling is. Unless a guy like Harbaugh is pounding on the door, you gotta run it back w/ AG in year 2.
@SteveSanpete@Michael_Nania@jetsxfactor AG's money is more than 2x the Mayo contract, so it was easier for NE to cut bait. That alone might keep AG for another year, though someone like Harbaugh would be tough to pass on if he became available.
@Michael_Nania It doesn't matter. The Jets NEED to draft their 1A QB, not settle for anything else. If Mendoza is the guy, then trade with whoever holds the 1st pick; Giants or Raiders. Whatever it takes.
@Playlikeajet1 Consensus: Jets stay at #3, take Moore if Mendoza goes #1 to Raiders. But if Mendoza's your clear 1A, why settle? Jets have the picks; Raiders need 'em. Do you think the Jets trade up to #1? Or would it be foolish overpaying when a 1B QB in Moore or Simpson might suffice?
@Playlikeajet1 Hey Scott, thanks for taking my ? earlier. Would the Raiders ever trade the #1 pick to the Jets if Mendoza/Moore are available, even though both teams are in the market? Raiders could use more picks...and the Jets have them.
@DTereman 18-year NFL QB turned elite QB coach. Scored 30 on Wonderlic. Experience from 13 teams — ultimate football journeyman. Josh McCown for head coach. He’s always been my #1 choice. If AG doesn’t get it right, I’ll be pounding the table again.
