Very sorry to hear that Fr Michael Tate AO died today. I met him both when he was the Justice Minister in the Keating Government and when he was Vicar General in the Archdiocese of Hobart. He was unfailingly courteous and good company. May he rest in peace

@PeterCronau These former politicians all benefit from AUKUS. It was a set up to ensure glorious riches for the most despicable dregs on the taxpayer purse.
His date of birth is 17 Dec 2005. Please retweet this. If you know him, please tell him to remain anonymous. He just needs to contact DKMS, even if it’s to say ‘no’. That would give us closure.
Approximate passports costs:
🇨🇦 Canada = ~$170
🇬🇧 United Kingdom = ~$195
🇺🇸 United States = ~$180
🇳🇿 New Zealand = ~$225
Australian 🇦🇺 passport cost...$422
Passport fees and charges are expected to generate $1.12 billion for the 2029/30 FY. In the same FY, expected revenue for PRRT is projected to be $1.25 billion
The point that is so often lost in Australia’s nicotine debate.
The most important comparison is not between vaping and doing nothing.
It is between vaping and smoking.
If the choice is between an illicit cigarette and an illicit vape, I would rather see someone using a vape.
The reason so many people are frustrated with Australia’s current approach is that it has created a situation where some smokers face greater barriers to accessing lower-risk alternatives than to accessing cigarettes.
The real public health goal should not be to force people into an all-or-nothing choice.
It should be to move as many people as possible away from combustible tobacco.
A world with fewer smokers is a healthier world, regardless of whether policymakers are comfortable with the pathway people take to get there.

We've been invited to a family member's party. Sounds great, except it's a living wake. The dear lady has aggressive terminal cancer. She doesn't have very long left.
What the hell do you say? Has anyone here ever been to a living #wake? #Dying

Widely acclaimed as one of the greatest duets of all time, this 1987 archival footage from Ibiza captures the iconic song "Barcelona." It stands as a vivid testament to the perfect fusion of Montserrat Caballé’s sublime operatic vocals and Freddie Mercury’s captivating stage presence—a masterpiece that left an indelible mark on music history and went on to become the official and defining anthem of the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona.
Barnaby Joyce, who had an affair with a staffer, who was found sprawled drunk in a gutter yelling "cunt", lectures Grace Tame over the Herzog rally:
"Given an honour by the Australian people you have a responsibility to conduct yourself in a way that inspires..."
Beyond parody.
BHP proceedings against MWM have been discontinued by agreement of the Court and BHP. The Simon Turner defence continues. We are back to being a court reporter!
@SMCPublicHealth Here is how to quit vaping. It is super-easy. Barely an inconvenience...
You do not know this because you never talk with ex-smokers who have quit by vaping.
The argument against decreasing the tobacco excise was destroyed yesterday with official statistics showing a 40% increase in nicotine consumption in Australia since 2017, mostly since 2021. Advocates and academics keep arguing that reducing excise will increase smoking. Now the evidence is clear. Prohibition through punishing cost has already done that. Time to stop listening to people who have failed Australians.
My waiter had dementia and forgot my order.
I visited a cafe in Japan that ONLY hires people with Dementia. It's called the Cafe Of Mistaken Orders.
Sometimes the servers bring you the wrong food, never bring your order, or sit down and join you instead.
But the point of this cafe is to be a place for dementia patients to feel needed and have purpose.
And this cafe is working. Japan has discovered that being socially connected actually slows down the progression of dementia.
So now there are 8,000 dementia cafes all over Japan!
The U.S. should be more like Japan. We should keep elders out of nursing homes, find ways to give them purpose, and part of society until their last days.
@healthgovau The fact is youth don't need these gross exaggerations and lies. Youth vaping halved in NZ without them and that is a country where the Ministry of Health promotes vaping to smokers, gives them free vape starter kits and has a retail market for devices and flavours.
