A roll of toilet paper in Tehran costs about 600,000 rials. They only have 140 sheets there, so one sheet costs about 4,000 rials; one rial buys a scrap less than 2 mm across. For an ordinary Iranian on the minimum wage, that roll is half an hour’s work.
Now, for Iran’s banks, the historic collapse in Rial value is the business model. Top 17 Iranian banks reported about $2 billion of profit last year, and almost none of it came from actual banking. It came from marking up the foreign currency on their books after the rial fell. The rial’s collapse is their only meaningful source of profit.

I understand why Islamist terrorists would want to globalize the intifada. It’s harder to understand why progressive Westerners would join calls to eradicate the systems of government and social organization that have given them the rights and freedoms they are now exercising.
“For God’s sake, do whatever you can for my child. Habibollah has no brother and no father. Please do something for my son.”
This is the voice of Habibollah Ghanbarzehi-Farjad’s mother, pleading for her son’s life. Habibollah is scheduled to be executed tomorrow, Monday, 12 October 2026, in Kerman Prison.
A 38-year-old Baluch father, Habibollah is the sole breadwinner for his children, mother and sister. He was transferred to pre-execution solitary confinement today. Prison officials told his family to arrive by 10 pm tonight for a final visit.
He was arrested in November 2023 and sentenced to death on drug-related charges. His family say he was sentenced despite evidence that the seized drugs did not belong to him.
His mother and sister are asking for help. There is still time to stop this execution.
The international community, especially governments with diplomatic relations with the Islamic Republic, must act immediately and use every available channel to halt his execution.
Every hour matters.
Please share this mother’s plea.

I’m hearing disturbing news about the possible imminent execution of Habibollah Ghanbarzehi-Farjada for a drug-related offence. I am following the case closely. His case appears consistent with other drug-related death sentences I have documented under my mandate. https://t.co/LHS6sqmbYf
Something like that, but on a larger scale, happened to Iranians on January 8 and 9. Why on a larger scale? Because, according to Iran’s National Security Council, the IRGC clashed with civilians in nearly all of Iran’s cities, and within those cities, in 4,000 locations. On January 8 and 9, the Ayatollah regime carried out an unprecedented massacre: tens of thousands were killed or wounded.
Any regime that executes its youth and its future like this - without a fair trial and any modicum of human rights - is bound to fall. Regardless of how long it takes the people of #Iran will see the end of this regime that continues to execute its own children.

🚨 It takes less than 5 minutes to help save an innocent life, so please stay.
This is my brave compatriot Ali Sina Mostafavi.
He's been sentenced to DEATH by the Terrorist Islamic Regime, based on fabricated charges and forced confession through brutal torture.
The regime has threatened him with the lives of his family members.
He's a freedom loving mountaineer and musician who loves nature.
Such a beautiful and innocent soul must not be taken.
Please be his voice.

Have you heard of Meisam Irandegani and Omid Moradi?
At 14, Meisam became involved in a fight while defending his grandfather; at 16, Omid took the blame for a crime committed by his friend. Both were executed.
Our demand: a moratorium on executions for all charges must be a central priority in every international engagement with the Islamic Republic.
Today, 10 October, is World Day Against the Death Penalty, with the theme “Stories for Life”. Mahmood Amiry-Moghaddam, Director of Iran Human Rights, reminds us that wherever the death penalty is used, efforts are often made to dehumanise those sentenced to death. To justify an inhumane punishment, the human being behind the case and the charges must first be erased. #NoDeathPenalty #StopExecutionsInIran
Democrats keep talking about how important it is that this guys wins Michigan, and I keep thinking how important it is -- for Democrats -- that he lose.
Iran is increasing its rhetoric and attacks against Kurdish forces in Iraqi Kurdistan, carrying out more than 1,000 missile and drone attacks targeting Kurdish Iranian dissident groups since February.
