It’s a tiny coral island off Iran's coast that handles 9 out of every 10 barrels of Iranian oil exports.

It's highly exposed, easy to hit, and would devastate Iran's economy if destroyed.

Trump hasn't touched it.

Hitting Kharg risks Iran unleashing hell on Gulf state oil infrastructure, would spike oil prices even higher, and would kneecap any future Iranian government after regime change.

Some Trump officials are talking about the "long-term game" being to get Iranian oil reserves "out of the hands of terrorists" and into friendly hands.

In other words, they want the oil intact for whoever comes next.
