Field Day season opener at Hyslop 🌾❤️🌱Thank you to @OSUAgSci, @USDA_ARS, all the research teams, and organizers for a fab day of plot tours in the sun ☀️🌾❤️
To all the losers who chuck beer bottles on country roads: Broken glass, especially clear, will end up in the food system. What’s worse: if glass is detected in the lot, farmers can lose their entire contract with the processor 🌾🌱🥕🌽🥔
My dear cousins, Don & Maryanne Wirth, keynote speakers @ PNW Direct Seed Assn meeting today. I learned so much about integrating #covercrop practices, intercropping, grazing, and “always take a shovel when walking fields to see what is going on down below”https://t.co/MHECmXrRK0
#covercrop report from the @USDA_ARS@OSUCBARC Resilient Dryland Farming Appropriation. Running a cover crop trial in an epic drought year is no joke, here is what we learned🚜🌾https://t.co/8WDnlEnrBh
@FarmsStarvation Unfortunately the water was extensive enough that this would have left us with just one plot for many of the varieties. If you would like to see the report, I can send it over- Colorado lines had a good year.
Variety testing reports for all of our winter winter sites except Klamath Falls are now online- please let me know if you have any questions. https://t.co/OGInkuznat
Quick update: the top winter barley in our Pendleton trial (Alba) still out-yielded the top winter wheat (LSC Shine) 5,107 lbs/acre to 4,680 lbs/acre. Weed control was weaker in the barley than the wheat due to fewer herbicide options.
Harvested our Pendleton winter barley trial today! Yields seemed to run just over 2 tons: a little disappointing, but we will see how that compares to the adjacent winter wheat in a few weeks.
Just posted our first variety testing reports for the season online (from Pendleton, Lexington, Hermiston, and Moro). Similar to last year, except we no longer have a separate Clearfield report, and we included multi-year summaries in the disease report.

Limited evidence that #wheat & #barley have the capacity to compensate for effects of Fusarium crown rot. New @AGEjournal pub, with Morrow County-specific data. #RStats code by @ciannabp 🚜Stubble ratings may be necessary to quantify this tricky disease
