A very big day for the Indigenous.
"In a 7-2 decision, the Supreme Court of Canada says the Sinixt Nation, whose reservation is in Wash. State, have constitutionally protected Indigenous rights to hunt in their ancestral territory north of the border. "

Good Land by @christibelcourt shows 2 depictions of 1 map. On one side, it contains original place names, & markings that show an Indigenous world view. On the other, words have been taken from existing historical maps: good land, land unfit for civilization, & Part of Canada.
@LindsEckert @CorinnaNoRue @britishlibrary So much hay!! And I agree, it feels way less discouraging to find only hay in person than in online archives.

Our English grad students do a fantastic job organizing this conference every year. If you’re working on global southern and/or transnational literatures, send in a proposal!
The Global Souths Conference is still accepting proposals! The deadline to submit is January 1st, 2021. The conference will be at UL Lafayette between March 18th-20th, with in-person and virtual options.
Lafayette has started to get the edge of #hurricanedelta . Just moderate rain and light wind so far. Fingers crossed for this afternoon/evening. @ Lafayette, Louisiana https://t.co/8wSqVFdS61
One of the more comprehensive maps of US reservations, of both federally & state recognized tribes. The fact that reservations aren’t included in most US maps has always seemed like a deliberate attempt to keep the general population in the dark about Indian Country.
