@joelklatt gives cinderella teams a chance, and keeps the season very important, and gives teams the gift of knowing what they have to do instead of the abstract nature of the college football season we have now where if you lose twice you know you can't make it. It still provides deserving
@joelklatt Leave out rose bowl and orange bowl out of playoff permanently and play the four teams that didn't make the cut for the playoff in those bowl games. This playoff system would keep all of the conferences happy because they have automatic bid in the playoff, gets cinderella teams
@joelklatt or an independent team like Notre Dame. The power 5 champions don't have to be seeded #1-5, they just have an automatic bid if they win conference championship of two best teams in the conference. Have four of the 6 new years 6 bowls be the playoff games.
@joelklatt Get rid of divisions in college football and have playoff where the 5 power five champions have an automatic bid into the playoff and pick 3 teams at random, whether it be a cinderella GO5 team, the loser of a conference championship game who had a great season, or
@joelklatt This keeps the importance of the regular season, balances and toughens schedules and allows better teams to prove their way in. The problem with the CFP now is that you don't have the 4 best teams because of the imbalances in schedules and Group of 5 teams never get a chance.
@joelklatt 1 seed would play the 4 seed and the 2 would play the 3 seed just like before. A week or two after that, the natty would be in a neutral site just like before.
@joelklatt This would keep the fun and importance of bowl games and stop players from skipping the bowls for NFL draft. Next, the committee would select top 4 teams for CFP by "Most deserving." The 1 and 2 seeds would play at their home stadiums.
@joelklatt If they win, they would have earned their way in by beating a very tough opponent. You would also do this "fixing" for other bowl games and could keep the bow ties. Also, you have the number 1 team play a lower-ranked team than the 2, 3, and 4 ranked teams.
@joelklatt This would help Group of 5 teams who go undefeated, but don't have a tough enough schedule to prove they are deserving. If you don't understand this concept, let me give you examples from 2017. You would place an undefeated UCF team against a 2 or 3 seed.
@joelklatt After that, I would have members of the CFP committee carefully match or "fix" the bowl matchups so that teams that are barely outside the top 4 and are still deserving of a shot to play their way into the CFP can still have a shot.
@joelklatt Next, I would get rid of the conference championships because they would be just unnecessary rematches and would have the team clinch a conference like the big 12 did it before the CFP forced them to have a conference championship.
@joelklatt Joel, I know you are one of the CFP Committee members and I have an idea that can fix the College Football Playoff without expanding it. First off, I would eliminate all divisions in the Power 5 conferences and have 1 non-conference game (for the non-conference rivalries).
