While working on the Rock Creek Fire, our firefighters got an unexpected escort from a very determined goat who led them toward the fire area and helped with some fuel mitigation along the way.

We’re not saying he’s ready for a badge… but we’re also not saying he isn’t. 😂

Pre Evacuation Orders in Fremont County due to Aspen Acres Fire

A pre-evacuation notice has been issued for the area of Hwy 67 south of Florence to the Custer County line. This pre-evacuation notice includes the towns of Rockvale and Coal Creek as well as the Newlin Ridge and Locke Mountain subdivisions. Please prepare yourself for evacuation. The previously issued pre-evacuation notice for Hwy 67 at the 5.5 mile marker, 2-2.5 miles on each side is still in place. A shelter has been set up at Pathfinder Park or the Colorado State Fairfrounds in Pueblo for humans and animals.

Today, the Colorado Springs Fire Department deployed additional resources to assist with the #AspenAcresFire, including a Type 6 brush truck, Engine 4, Wildland 4, and a Battalion Chief.

As we continue supporting our neighbors to the south, we want our community to know that additional staffing has been put in place here at home to ensure Colorado Springs remains fully protected.

Wildfire season is a reminder that preparedness matters for fire departments and for our community. Taking steps now to prepare your home and family can make all the difference when wildfire threatens.

Hazy smoky skies in Pueblo again today, no smell or particulates but ominous nonetheless.

Surprising to think I lived through the Santiam/Beachie creek fire being only about 15 miles away from me in 2020.

God bless our great state, praying for everyone affected and a swift resolution.

Anyone who has evacuated due to the fire can apply for up to 10 days in an Airbnb. Residents can register by calling 1-844-975-1881 (English) & 1-844-975-1882 (Spanish).

If you are evacuating or near the vicinity of the fire HAVE A PLAN and be ready to MOVE.

There’s a high chance there will be ONE way out and it will be terribly busy. You don’t want to be the last one. Check the mandatory evacuation list.

Elderly and disabled people have priority for busses from Rye to the evac center in Pueblo.

Large animals are welcome at the county fairgrounds.
