Great to have our piece out in @RTEBrainstorm this morning discussing our recent publication on sleep quality in Gaelic Games.
In the article, we discuss our findings and, based on this, theorise why it is that our athletes are poor sleepers and how they can help their sleep!
Why are so many GAA players not getting proper sleep? New research has found that 73% of Gaelic Games' athletes surveyed were poor sleepers, which exposes them to increased injury risk. Analysis by Alannah Harford & Ryan Alexander @shhp_dcu@DCU https://t.co/vdUsebJDnw
We've got a youth sport crisis.
70% of kids quit sports by 13.
64% experience high levels of fear of failure.
60% report overwhelming pressure to perform
Adults need to stop ruining sports.

Yet Certified Athletic Therapists @ARTIIreland cannot be regulated under CORU! Athletic therapists are more than capable of helping and with the healthcare crisis that our country is facing.
Stephen Donnelly has vowed to train more healthcare workers in Ireland and reduce the health service's reliance on overseas workers. 🩺

Certified Athletic Therapists such as myself have been fighting for years to become a CORU-registered healthcare professional and have been met with silence.

Last thing to say on the Davy Fitzgerald incident.
Of course you have to allow for emotion but if it’s deemed acceptable for a manager to be in the face of an official after the game (no matter what the decision) then we’ve no chance.
As a result of stuff like this, you don’t end up with the best referees but rather the ones that will put up with the abuse. A reminder that you do not get paid for reffing inter-county games so honestly, why would you bother?
The Clare official that escalated the situation should 100% also be punished. The fact there was kids around this makes it all the worse.
I just can’t for the life of me understand people on here defending the actions of anybody surrounding the referee after the game.
GAA culture has to change.
It was a pleasure to be involved with the launch of the MSc. Athletic Therapy and Strength and Conditioning in DCU this evening. It’s a course that will be in high demand and offer great expertise to its graduates! #athletictherapy#strengthandconditioning
Our final speaker is @ryana2602, a graduate of the athletic therapy program here at DCU who went on to complete a masters in S&C and now works under Professor Brian Devitt in @sscsportsmed#dcushhp
Our final speaker tonight, @ryana2602 explaining his passion and reasons for pursuing his career in athletic therapy and strength and conditioning and how it helps his role as clinical specialist athletic therapist with @DevittBrian in @SSCSantry
New meta-analysis finds that taking an ice bath after strength training impairs gains.
The inflammation, damage, stress is the SIGNAL for adaptation.
Take it away...we blunt the response.
Sometimes, damage is a good thing...
