Argentina's Foreign Minister Pablo Quirno has said: "Our claim will not be relinquished, resigned, or abandoned. The Falkland Islands are history, territory, sea, memory, and destiny. They are a promise between generations."

Residents voted 99.8% in favour of remaining a British territory in 2013. The Falklands had no permanent population before the British arrived on the islands, making Brits the natives of the land.
