Hey @grok how many sermons a week did John Calvin preach a year on average? And how long were they on average?
Same for Jonathan Edwards, Charles Spurgeon, John Chrysostom, John Owen, Martin Luther, and George Whitefield?
I don’t care about this lady at all one way or another but this looks like fascinating, inventive filmmaking. Nathan Fielder has really become one of the most creative and interesting storytellers in the business. Doing it without a script or actors is even more impressive.
"What’s so uninteresting to me, and has been for many years now, is how disdainful, how full of contempt Du Mez is for evangelicals. These are the people who built the place she works, who fed and clothed her, who gave her all the precious gifts of Christendom, who thought that women could and should learn to read and study the Bible, who gave her the opportunity to learn history, and who, best of all, went out into all the world preaching the gospel. But she can’t think of anything good about them. Nothing at all. And that, wouldn’t you know it, also makes for dull and uninspiring reading. Imagine, sitting in the most elite space the world has ever known and thinking that all the people who made the world you inhabit are evil. That’s not only bad history, but terrible fiction." I was a sophomore in college when 9/11 happened. My majors were lit/writing and political science. The next semester I decided to write a persuasive essay on why Islam was incompatible with democracy of the American variety and why our form of gov’t couldn’t take root in Islamic countries—the idea was that our political freedoms were born of Christianity. My professor told me my premise was so bad and wrong that it was a waste of time to write the paper. He also tried to humiliate me as a bigot in front of the class. This was at a Christian liberal arts school and he was considered a conservative prof. He wanted me to say Islam was a religion of peace and only perversions of Islam were violent, likening it to bad actors in Christianity. That was wrong then and now—it is exactly the opposite. I took the hit on my grade and wrote the paper anyway. I cried over the public humiliation and the bad grade. But 25 years later and I wouldn’t change the premise, just how much I cared what the prof and my classmates thought of me.
I'm not Reformed, but if I were going to be, it would be to get as far as possible as fast as possible away from certain kinds of really bad antiCalvinism.
Women are increasingly going to excuse child murder because 25% of American women (at least) have blood guilt on their hands that they have never reckoned with. A quarter of American women have already murdered their own children. So it should hardly surprise us that they identify with the killer and not the victims.
CNN describes female Clancy jurors as judge spoke after declaring mistrial:
"There was one female juror that was nodding her head, 'Noooo.'"
"Another female juror was clenching her hands into fists."
"One female juror would not even open her eyes."
Imagine what the man who held his ground was up against in that deliberation room.
I read a chapter of Scripture to my kids every night before they go to bed. No explanation. No preparation. Just read it and pray.
Tonight we read James chapter 1. My son (7) made a connection to Isaiah 40:8 based on similar language with James 1:11 that I had never considered before.
Then based on James 1:18 he started asking questions about what it means to be born again.
So we got to talk about John 3:1-8 and 1 Peter 1:23 and how we are born again by the power of the Holy Spirit working through the Word of God.
This does not happen every night. This does not happen most nights. But it would not happen any night if this were not part of the rhythm of his life.
Read the Bible to your kids. Often. Faith comes by hearing.
They don't just *have* them they *prefer* them. By their own admission 61% of same-sex couples don't want a foster kid, they want a biological connection to a child.
The problem is, "having" a biological child requires children lose their biological mother or father.
LGB adults get what they want, children are denied what they need. Classic #UsBeforeThem.
In the LGB world, biology is important for adults. But disposable for children.
This house, which survived the devastating floods, is being discussed around the world. Its construction, structural design, and resilience are attracting widespread attention, with researchers studying how it managed to withstand the disaster. Everyone is trying to explain its remarkable survival in their own way.
What do you think?
