@PaganOrigin @drjoshshields The social contract is that you go into medicine prepared to sacrifice a lot because you will be remunerated handsomely for it. That social contract is broken. Doctors want to heal and care, but that can’t be at the expense of their own wellbeing, financially or otherwise.
@Anisocyte@kcisc It definitely varies a bit from uni to uni, but yes, in general they like you to have a minimum amount of OMFS experience as a dental core trainee (often 12-18 months), to have passed MFDS part A and B, and to have some demonstrable career intentions toward OMFS or oral medicine.
@DrLukeCraddock Yes, and have been saying this for years now. I think the writing is on the wall. It all starts with reducing access and squeezing of business margins. Patient who can pay for access will, and eventually jaded GPs will refuse to squeeze appointment times and margins any further.
@subzeronell@supertanskiii@Toby_Jugs A better argument might be to ask why GPs are not checking up regularly on their patients health. Of course the answer to that is also obvious-I’m sure many would support a more prevention focused way of working, but they’re slammed every day with sick people and the worried well
@subzeronell@supertanskiii@Toby_Jugs dentistry is a prevention focused specialty. Dental decay and gum disease develop over years and usually have very easily recognisable signs for a dentist. The regular check ups are to help prevent and intervene early before a problem gets more serious needing an extraction etc
@PayaCahuite@supertanskiii@Toby_Jugs Lomita - you do not need a cleaning at least once a year. This is a myth. It is perfectly possible to keep your teeth and gums healthy at home with good brushing and flossing/interdental brushing technique and a decent diet. I’m 32, and have never needed a cleaning.
@ColtS117@kirawontmiss our teeth exist in something called ‘the neutral zone’. This is a balanced position between the muscular forces of your tongue and lips. If you change that balance then the neutral zone moves and so do the teeth, in this case the lips are incompetent so the teeth move forward
@sahsmum1@DrEilidhMaria@BryettJudy You can’t unfortunately open your own practice unless you’re a specialist/consultant. As a junior doctor your options are very limited. You would need to be a fully qualified GO etc. Even then nearly everyone will join an existing practice.
@ThePtarmigan@nickmmark great point, racial is sensory only at that point whereas ulnar provides a lot of motor innervation to small muscles of the hand. Much more debilitating injury potentially.
@sempsictyranis@DrNeilStone ummm no, that’s not true. It’s also not what i said. Just that they are similar viruses and measures to prevent the spread of one will also work for the other.
@sempsictyranis@DrNeilStone Because many people were wearing masks, washing their hands more, staying home and social distancing when out. Covid and Flu are both respiratory viruses and so measures to prevent the spread of one will logically also prevent the spread of the other.
