Steam catapults are tried and true. Electric catapults fail. It isn’t this simple though. The effect on flight ops is good, but the added weight, crew, and maintenance probably makes it a wash. The reactor cores are designed to be “life of ship” or no refueling scheduled for fifty years. The added steam demand of the catapults will reduce core life span by at least five years. Probably doesn’t matter as the need for manned war planes seems to be going away soon.

The magnetic one fails after 460 cycles. Much faster than the navy wants.
