Journalist Alicia Fitzgerald misrepresents Freedom of Movement that we had with the EU
Suggesting that young people under 30 could only go to EU countries for up to 2 years
The other journalist sitting next to her nods her head in agreement
And the host of the program Kamali Melbourne doesn't correct her
Just to be clear, when we were in the European Union every Brit enjoyed Freedom of Movement, this allowed:
➡️Live anywhere in the EU – You could move to another EU country and set up residence without needing a visa
➡️Work anywhere in the EU – You could take jobs, be self-employed, or start a business in another EU country without needing a work permit
➡️Study anywhere in the EU – You could study at universities in other EU countries and often pay the same tuition fees as local students
➡️Access social benefits – You could claim social security, healthcare, or unemployment benefits in other EU countries under certain conditions
➡️Travel freely – You could move between EU countries for holidays or short stays without border checks or visas
➡️ Caveat for long term stays – If you wanted to stay longer than 3 months, you usually had to be working or self-employed, or be a student, or have sufficient funds and health insurance to support yourself
Being 5 months post ACL surgery and been able to hike Upto Bamford Edge and walk around Ladybower reservoir with no issues is such an achievement for me #aclrecovery#gay
