@pricefoulger@shawngorham@jamesonhaslam@cantshutupsam Btw having your own team vs subs is a great goal but if you get a quote from state fund as a brand new roofer with no safety history it will be like 80% of your projected revenue haha.
@pricefoulger@shawngorham@jamesonhaslam@cantshutupsam In CA you can check anyone’s license, WC, liability, etc on the CSLB website. We use a couple crews but have a contract with each and have their COIs as well. You report the work you do with each to the State Fund (JNFs)

@pricefoulger The differences in permitting and inspections between municipalities is incredible. Costs, technology, speed, bureaucracy, vibes - all different. We do a $300-$500 allowance in the contract and then change order the difference if it’s major.
@pricefoulger@shawngorham@jamesonhaslam@cantshutupsam That was a fun read! I got through a lot of it on my own and then had ChatGPT tell me if I was f*cked.
Good news is all of my subs are fully licensed and insured. Furthermore, I actually had to submit their Liability and WC COIs to the State Fund once I got a quote. :-)
@StrongpointRich I think it’s hard to lump everyone together. Homeowners want clarity, transparency and understanding where their money is actually going. Maybe paper and pen do that, but these days folks want more info on why they are spending $25K on a roof then Chuck’s chicken scratch .
@NoRiskNoParty Hard to sell most people on a roof that costs 2x+ shingles even with a 50+ year guarantee. Not impossible but most can’t wrap their around the cost, since it’s not visceral and a day to day reminder like a car.
