Congrats to @OutfieldGrass24 on a beautiful life, wedding and wife. He deserves all of it (they both do). And I couldn't be prouder of his choice of wedding color. #lovetheteal#GoDbacks
Best part of Peralta’s 108 mph fliner over the fence, IMHO: that he got that much leverage despite scooping it out of the bottom(ish), away(ish) part of the zone.
After throwing sliders for 37.4% of pitches last season (previous high: 25.7%), Patrick Corbin threw sliders for 45 of 91 pitches (49.5%) on Opening Day. He's back at it: 35 of 67 pitches (52.2%) have been sliders this afternoon.
Closing the book: looks like 53 of 98 pitches (54.1%). That includes two pitches from the fifth that weren't immediately tagged in Gameday -- both sliders, apparently.
Of course, they may have overtaken the league lead for outs on the bases just now, also...
But in 2017, Arizona had the fewest outs on the bases (38) in the NL.
Prior to the games today, there had only been 5 steals of 3rd this season (and no CS) in the National League. The #Dbacks had 2 of them, added two more today. Last year, they ranked 2nd in the NL (after Brewers).
@MythicalBen Once upon a time, tying Corbin's success to slider frequency, I did a quick look at whether pitchers throw it more or less after TJ. https://t.co/VPP9TJJLo6 (toward the end -- lots of variation, but overall, no change) Haven't ever looked at re-injury rates, though.
