Had a great time at #AOS_SCO2023, my first conference experience! I met so many cool people and heard about so much incredible research. Thanks everyone who came to my poster on Rhegmatorhina phylogenomics and to @glaudelrio for being a fantastic mentor through this project!
The legendary family-run birdwatching tourism conservation success story, Refugio Paz de las Aves, is under threat.
Apparently Angel's mother died and he is trying to buy out his 7 siblings for ownership (and conservation) of the forest: https://t.co/0N0Q669HMi

My West Coast birding skills are catching up to my East Coast skills. For Day 2 of #BlackBirdersWeek & #PostABird I'm sharing my West Coast "unicorn" bird, the male hooded oriole. It's currently their breeding season & I KNOW THEY'RE AROUND because I've seen the females.
Soon.
My choice for #BlackBirdersWeek is the Pileated Woodpecker (Drycopus pileatus). I couldn’t believe it was in my yard. First one I’ve seen in 3 years. Possibly because they are noted to be shy of humans, unlike the Red-bellied (M. Carolinus) & Hairy (P. villosus ) woodpeckers.
#BlackBirdersWeek Continuing to celebrate #BlackInNature with #PostABird . I've spent a lot of time trying to get pictures of New Zealand birds when I go to visit my partner. This little Fantail has to be favorite! They flutter around your feet as you hike down trails :)
Today is the day!!!! Today @BlackAFinSTEM kicks off #BlackBirdersWeek by celebrating and highlighting all who are #BlackInNature! The outdoors aren’t always a safe space for us, but we will continue exploring all the beautiful spaces and places because nature is for everyone!

Hello everyone, I’m Jeffrey Ward and I’m a Black birder from the Bronx, NY. Been birding for 6 years which is short compared to a lot of birders but I’ve learned so much and made so many friends and so many memories. @BlackAFinSTEM#BlackBirdersWeek#BlackAFinSTEM
